Lizzibeth CELEBRITEES
A celebrity is defined as a celebrated person. Lizzibeth wants to embrace this definition and create a line called CELEBRITEES to pay tribute to influential people in the community and honor the hard work they have accomplished. Each CELEBRITEE is designed to embrace the beauty of local leaders and their individual impact at work and in the community.
Meet Erin
Erin Kelly spends her days operating Kelly Creative – a boutique marketing and communications studio – and her evenings, weekends, and any spare moment painting homes, portraits and hand-lettered quotes as the artist behind Erin Kelly Illustrations. Her custom watercolor-and-ink pieces bring to life the things we love. Erin has been an artist her whole life – one of her earliest memories is sitting in her dad’s old recliner chair eating a bowl of mashed potatoes and drawing pictures of princesses (this is real, this is not a drill, people!). Thirty years later, not much has changed: Erin is a born multi-tasker with, ultimately, food-centered priorities.
What was your inspiration behind the design?
I really do paint the things that are close to people’s hearts – their favorite quotes, their homes, their families – and I wanted to paint something that was meaningful and rang true to those of us lucky to live in Milwaukee. I was born here, but moved around for a few years and went to college out of town. No matter where you are, even if you’ve left, when you hear the word “Milwaukee,” you think of “home.” There’s almost a nostalgia about Milwaukee; it’s a city with a small town feel. It’s dear. It’s home.
Where is your happiest place in Milwaukee?
Have you ever been to the Pabst Theater at Christmastime? Their annual production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is ever-evolving and always inspiring. I have been lucky enough to see the show for many years – it has become a Christmas tradition for my family – and it is quintessentially Milwaukee. The architecture of the theater, the giant tree in the lobby, grabbing drinks at Kil@wat afterward – that whole corner of Water Street is one of my favorite places, especially this time of year.
What is your favorite place to eat in Milwaukee?
My name is Erin Kelly – I’m ridiculously Irish! County Clare in downtown Milwaukee is my favorite place to eat (and drink!) in the city. Definitely go on a Friday, because their fish fry is to die for. Plus, if you stick around long enough, live Irish music is guaranteed to start playing from the “snug” booths or corner stage!
What is your Milwaukee memory?
My husband and I got married last year, and had our reception at the Pfister Hotel downtown. One of my favorite moments of the day was getting off of the trolley, and walking into the Pfister lobby. The opulence of the historic building, the warmth of seeing our family and friends greet us and the “hugeness” of being literally just married – it was an emotional moment.
What advice would you give other business women trying to advance their career?
I say this to so many people, because it is sort of my mantra. Don’t let fear stand in your way, because here’s the secret of life: NOBODY has it all figured out! Nobody knows what they’re doing! Hard work and a positive attitude cover so many mistakes, uncertainties and bad days.
